The laboratory's operations are driven with a focus on technology to improve processes and the results for our clients. From the analytical work to the electronic transmission of results, we work to derive benefit from our current technologies, while also keeping an eye on what is emerging. This position on the use of technology extends to quality control, health and safety down to selecting the correct air conditioning configurations for the laboratory to eliminate airborne contaminations.
The Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) used by Watercare is LabPro. This system is capable of tracking each sample through all stages of analysis, reporting and invoicing. Client data is stored on the LabPro database, and is kept on file for a number of years. Results are then emailed (or alternatively faxed) to clients upon validation. Certain machines are linked to this system to automatically upload results, eliminating transcription errors. Once a result is checked and validated then it is forwarded to the client. The standard turnaround time from the receipt of samples to the result sent to the client is 10 days. With reasonable prior knowledge the laboratory can accommodate faster turnaround times to meet a client's need.
Watercare Laboratory offers ultra low metal detection limits with ICP-MS technology.
Watercare Laboratory Services uses an Agilent 7500 series ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer) to meet the growing customer need for ultra low level metal detection in a range of matrics. The ICP-MS allows for the accurate detection of a greater range of metals to lower detection limits than earlier technologies. In most instances we will be able to reach the ppb (parts per billion) level an in some cases the ppt (parts per trillion) levels of detection. To put those measurements in perspective 1 ppb is the equivalent to 1 second in 31.7 years and 10 ppt, 1 second in 3,170 years!
