Project Hobson

Watercare is building a tunnel under Hobson Bay to replace the 90-year-old sewer pipe bisecting the bay on Auckland's waterfront Tamaki Drive.

The $118.6 million project will see the removal of the concrete sewer and its replacement with a three-kilometre long tunnel.

The existing pipeline is at the end of its economic life. Replacing it with a large tunnel will meet projected growth in the area, open up the bay for recreational purposes and improve the views of one of Auckland's premier tourist attractions, Tamaki Drive.
